Invisible timelines/strands of narrative/tracing connections.
This group of drawings have emerged out of my interest in two, interconnected, processes that I have been exploring for some time now :the process of drawing and the process of remembering and forgetting.
Fundamentally, the search for a visual language to describe the passage of time and experience, has merged with the application of marks and materials to the drawing surface. This includes the scale or proportion of the paper itself.
The horizontal format in these particular pieces emphasises a linear movement. It invites reading from left to right like the written word ; moving from point to point, suggesting a narrative. The continuous pencil line, the most basic of drawing marks, traces a path connecting events.
