Artist Biography

Artists Statement By the time I begin a sculpture I have already filled my mind with the lines, weight, proportions and character of the subject. Meticulous observation and drawing are not negotiable in the process. With a well ordered scrap pile, the necessary welding equipment and a beautifully remote place to work I combine the forms in my mind with the redundant metal parts I have collected. Then a sculpture comes alive. Like any good poem I am always looking to see what I can leave out. The hollows become positive space. Where there is air can be seen bone, muscle, flesh, with the balance of strength and fragility which is in every living form.
