Artist Biography

Artist’ Statement My influences are particularly from the late medieaval -early renaissance painters, especially the Flemish artists, who worked under commission, but remarkably retained a huge individuality in their vision:- ‘Joseph of Nazareth(with spectacles)’!’ The daily becomes transcendental. Inspiration is drawn from my everyday encounters, and is translated into narrative pieces, with elements of myth and story-telling. The imagery is often sparked around birds and animals, which have been a lifelong thrill, often 'making the day' by their presence. The questions that revolved in my mind since college are ‘How to put special into slight?’ How to convey the extraordinary in the ordinary?’ Mostly working with natural gesso panels, acrylics and gold leaf, the work will also use form and materials to tell its story.
