Born: 1961, Edinburgh, Scotland. Studied ceramics at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, graduating in 1984 and have been a ceramist since then, working from my studio in Edinburgh. Exhibiting widely in Scotland and internationally.
STATEMENT
My hand-built porcelain work is inspired by the infinite array of forms in the botanical world - exploring the sculptural quality of plants, responding to their structure whilst selecting favourite composite shapes in order to create my own ceramic “hybrids”.
I have been lucky enough to have been given access to the collection of specimens in the Herbarium of The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh where I draw inspiration from the huge collections of pressed plant specimens, impressive seed pod collection as well as the spirit collection of pickled flowers and fruits stored in glass jars.
