Phyllis Mcgowan

Artist Biography

Phyllis McGowan uses words, objects and performative images to capture emotion. Her confident colours and use of domestic materials and markings have a playful edge, which, like the use of humour in her writing, distracts us temporarily from their powerful meaning. Personal, often autobiographical and rich from her background in psychology and feminist work, her installations have a mythic feel, an alive quality and are a call to arms.
