Artist Statement
Aimie Harding is a sculptural artist based in Fife, Scotland whose interdisciplinary practice is imagination driven. She works with a broad range of materials and processes, most commonly, woodturning, woodcarving, ceramics and creative writing. She graduated with a First Class Honours in Art and Philosophy in 2024 from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. During her studies she became interested in science fiction and has since been drawing most of her inspiration from the vast imaginative worlds that are found within this genre.
Aimie’s practice centres around the creation of sculptural artefacts that exist within an alternative future world. She derives her work from a selection of forms that are reminiscent of seed pods and otherworldly wildlife. These forms are then paired together within a framework of basic geometric patterns and structures that influence the ways in which her sculptures come alive. Through her work Aimie hopes to encourage viewers to imagine the possible worlds in which these ‘artefacts’ could exist- however close to or entirely unfamiliar to our own.
