I make works on paper that fall between painting and drawing, and 3-D work, both inspired by architectural spaces. I choose my subjects because they have an out of the ordinary quality or because they suggest a new idea that I can explore. I am always interested in the aesthetics of the piece I am making but through a long process of making corrections, overpainting, and re-constructing I work towards making sense of what began as a partially understood concept.
Often, I work in series, on several parallel pieces, each one informing and strengthening the other until they diverge.
An example of the importance of evolution and change in my process occurs in the Northern Light series. In the completed pieces nothing now exists of the original real scaffolded lighthouse. My interpretations are imagined and new forms and meanings have become defined.
